Human Resources Manager - Rocky Mountain Public Media

We are looking for an experienced, creative, flexible, and dedicated HR Manager to develop, manage, and administer the Human Resource management program of Rocky Mountain Public Media. Key responsibilities include employment, salary administration, benefits, payroll, training, employee relations, performance management, EEO, legal compliance, health and safety, and planning of staffing requirements. The HR Manager works under the direction of the Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and is responsible for recommending and setting Human Resources policies and administers the RMPM intern and volunteer programs.


  • Human Resource Management
    • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
    • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions, and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting comply.
    • Manages HR processes, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to employment, salary administration, benefits, payroll, training, employee relations, performance management, EEO, legal compliance, health and safety, planning of staffing requirements, and management of employee statistics for government reporting.
    • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
    • Actively participates in RMPM's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. Embodies the key goals of the program. Uses key standards and teachings of DEI when designing and managing all HR policies and procedures, utilizing DEI to help RMPM reach its strategic goals.
    • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
    • Prepares budget of human resources operations.
    • Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.


  • Employment, Benefits, and Salary Administration
    • Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
    • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
    • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
    • Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
    • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
    • Manages all leave of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA and workers compensation compliance. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.


  • Other Duties:                                                                                        
    • Directs RMPM employee engagement programs, volunteer programs and initiatives, and RMPM internship program.
    • Manages employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, and Intranet use.
    • Other tasks as assigned and/or required.

 Minimum Qualifications of Position

  • Bachelor's degree (Human Resources Management or similar degree preferred) is required.
  • At least five years of professional HR management experience in progressively high-level positions is required.
  • Highly proficient and demonstrated knowledge and experience with Office 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other Microsoft apps such as SharePoint is required.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a collaborative and productive team member.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally and productively with persons at all levels.
  • Must possess exceptional time management, decision making and organizational skills.
  • A mix of demonstrated skills, abilities and knowledge may be considered in place of educational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications of Position

  • Master's degree in Human Resource management is preferred.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification; and/or SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) or PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification is preferred.
  • Experience with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives is preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
