Content Director - KUVO Urban Alternative

Rocky Mountain Public Media, home to Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO radio, is the largest statewide, member-supported, multi-media network in Colorado. Rocky Mountain Public Media's mission is to strengthen the civic fabric in communities throughout Colorado, engaging audiences through high-quality, trusted programming, community programs and partnerships, and educational initiatives that inform, enlighten and entertain. To further this mission, Rocky Mountain Public Media seeks a full-time Content Director.

DESCRIPTION:

Lead the KUVO Urban Alternative programming department and implement the sound of the stations new broadcast and streaming service during a time of exciting change in media. Help KUVO to fulfill its vision of "Exploring the Colorado music scene, together." The Content Director supervises the day-to-day programming of audio, video, broadcast and digital Urban Alternative content across KUVO's main channel, the HD2 channel, the App, KOMF, DOM public access TV, and RMPBS TV platforms.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Develops and executes the vision of Urban Alternative content across platforms and how it will serve in the community. Works with CPB consultant and KUVO President and General Manager, to develop the music mix that will appeal to the target audience. Establishes and maintains a consistent sound, tone, and image across multiple platforms. Leads and mentors a team of on-air hosts; volunteers, and interns. Assist on-air staff in researching, setting up original content they will produce. Works closely with Sr. VP of Radio and other staff to develop and implement digital strategies to ensure the station is providing a multiplatform service. Stays up-to-date on trends in the national and local music scene. Suggest and create original content for our social media platforms. Assist in creating the content calendar, planning for coverage of upcoming events, and plans to share content across platforms. Utilizes research tools and data to make data-driven decisions. Helps develop and maintain relationships with the production team. Manages processes for high-level project planning, including crafting milestones, tasks, and schedules. Ensures clarity of communication and understanding of strategic goals and programmatic dependencies among project teams. Helps coordinate and produce station promotional and on-air fundraising activities. Collaborates with Sr. VP of Radio on coordinating and providing content for web and digital platforms. Suggest and oversee the production of original content. Ensures that all programming adheres to RMPM's mission and priorities and adheres to editorial standards. Contributes to a culture of collaboration and innovation across all disciplines. Reports to the KUVO President and General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION:

Affinity with Urban music and familiarity with multicultural millennials. Knowledge of the Denver market and trends in the national and local music scene. Leadership skills demonstrated success coaching and mentoring. An understanding of broadcast and digital audience measurement data. Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Data-driven decision making and ongoing operational analysis. Proven ability to drive implementation in a culture of ownership, delivery, and innovation. Excellent communication skills, ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with leadership and technical and team members alike. Technical aptitude, ability to understand and discuss technical needs of the radio station. Experience with digital platforms desired. Passion for public media's mission.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

KUVO Office, venues, and event locations associated with the Denver market and public radio.
